About My Sister-do!

Everywhere I go , no matter who I see, people always say I look like Jill Scot because of my Afro! Trust me,
I love it because she is one of my favorite Neo-Soul Artists! What so you think?

She is pretty, right! I always refer to my Afro as my "Sister-Do!" Anytime anyone asks me how far I am going to let it grow out I always tell them that I am trying to get to where Erikah Badu is! But only she could pull this off! I love it, but I could not carry it. You go girl..she is one of my favorites too!

Check out Yaya's sister-do from ANTM:

And how about a Vintage look sister-do:

Well, I said all that to tell you about a project that I am looking into. I came across this beautiful Afrocentric black and white button art by Anouchka Potdevin, while looking for Afro wall art on the web.

I found it on Apartment Therapy, a article of the art of recycled junk.  Here this guy found a great way to recylce buttons. Very creative huh!

I found out that he even has a shop on Etsy. Check it out here. Really nice art and I love that it is black and white because it makes it trendy.

Well, regarding that project I mentioned earlier I wan to approximate this some how in my house. I have not delved into details as to how, but I  know I need to use recycled materials! This will stand as homage to my sister-do!

Naima's Moroccan Flair

Okay...I am a little worried!  Naima's American Idol performance last night left me saying..."WHAT THE H***!" As much as I love Tina Turner, there is a certain time and place for "What's Love Got To Do With It!" Last night just was not it! She did give it a nice little updated spin. She was once again very pitchy!

Her outfit was kind of all over the place. It took me a minute to figure out where I wanted to go with it. After a minute I decided I did not like it. I bet she or the wardrobe peeps put lots of extra time and effort into it, but it just fell short in my opinion! The only thing I did like were her wedge shoes. Her hair was very cute, also! I like the yellow hairpiece.

I will have to get better pics up, but for now these are from You-tube.   I did however get the vibe of a Moroccan Flair, especially looking at her belt. She had lots of layering of textures and colors which you see a lot of in Moroccan design. So I did some digging and came up with this collage of Moroccan inspired design.

Top 1-2-3, Middle 1-2-3, Bottom 1-2-3

After putting this together I did get a better sense of her outfit. I just hope she gets her singing down so that she will be there for awhile!

Naima..Na-im-a

Okay...I wanted to let you know about what I thought about Naima's performance on Wednesday night. Although it was the riskiest performance of the night and the most exciting, it was AWIGHT!  I think the judges were right about her breathing. She just did not hit those really important notes that makes Rhianna's  "Umbrella" the song that it is. She really took a chance with a popular song. I did like her punk rock outfit, though because it was a different change of pace for her. I loved her injection of the reggae flavor and her dancing was ON POINT. The converse were a nice throwback! I think she is really good for American idol, but that's just my opinion.

Naima is to American Idol what Kelly Wearstler is to Interior Design, "A STAND OUT!" Kelly injects so much her own style and personality into her room designs. She is such an icon in both fashion and design. I was first introduced to her a few years ago when I think her old website was KWdesign.com. I almost fell out my chair. I must have spent 3 hours looking at every single image.

I immediately thought of Kelly's room designs when it came to referencing Naima's outfit of choice this week. It's got spunk, color, and throwback! Everything Kelly does is BIG! So is Naima's outfits. Neither one of them hold back at all.

I still think the best is yet to come out of Naima! GOOD LUCK!

Reality Show Junky

Naima
Okay...I am a sucker for reality shows! But right now I am so loving the style of Naima from American Idol. Her style, swagger, and her voice all have this Neo-Soul flavor! She had this beautiful flowing vintage sequin dress for her judging tonight. She did make it to the TOP 24! I will have to get the picture as soon as it becomes available.
She is like Erikah Badu and Alicia keys all wrapped into one person. I am excited just to see not only what she is going to sing, but what she is going to wear every week! Trust me she will be the style icon for American Idol this year.

I really have not been excited about American idol since Fantasia won her season, but I ma a little giddy about this one, so we shall see what happens!
