"Get'chu Some!"...Modern Glam

Anyone who knows me knows that I am fool for nail heads, tufting and pretty shiny things, which could be a brief synopsis of Hollywood Regency Style decor. This would fall under "Modern Glam," for me! So you gotta get'chu some of this pretty!

All of the following interiors are by Mary Ruth Caldwell and Lisa Caldwell Flake of Caldwell-Flake Interior Design. I came across this website awhile back and revisited it today after visiting my favorites. Each  room is a work of art a masterpiece even. Check em out:

A little ethnic, a little rustic, and a whole lot of glam! Get'chu some......The drapery fabric is fa-abulouuuus (as I sing it out)! Its sooo serenely beautiful! I all the little minute details that make a big statement, like lush jacquard pattern in the pillows. They make this room dance!

A sight in white, this room has so much depth with is play on textures. Look at the dynamics of the shiny metallic pillows, lamps, and bench versus the rustic bedside tables. All grounded by the heavenly hotel linens! Get'chu some......I even love the crystal vase with the pretty lilac hydrangea!

As you know, I love my pop of color! I am loving the pop of apple green in this bedroom. This room is so eclectically right.  I love what looks like wrought iron carts as side tables. There is even classic ikat in this room. I also love the twist in the metal of the x benches at eh end of the bed and the extra large window hardware. Get'chu some.....Really what is not to love about this room?!!

I saved my favorite for last!  Rustic yellow, distressed, corbel wall sconces with square lamp shades....really?!! Talk about "get'chu some......," I gotta get ME some...... LIKE QUICK! I love the pops of yellow sunshine in this room with that fun swirly monochromatic fabric pattern. Then you have black and white ethnic patterned shams on top a padded square tufted wall with a nail-head relief. I am sick y'all, because I am dieing for this room!
Their philosophy is like poetry! It is such a desirable achievement to reach in your own surroundings. Enjoy!

I am loving...Laguna Plaid

Designer Trina Turk's Laguna Plaid is just too pretty for words.

Look at all the choices you have in this beautiful geometric print.

Her prints are impeccable. I also love these Greek Key pillows too!

I just want at least one swatch of all her residential textiles. You can find them at F Schumacher if you have not seen them already. I love it when fashion and interior design collide!

Bringing Happy Back

Sometimes things that you can not control just gotta hit you all at one time like a bag-a-bricks. Sorry ya girl has been out for the count as for posting for the last week and a half, but you ever get to a point where nothing motivates you because your are physically and mentally drained?  Well..I am sooo...there! I gotta say that I can honestly blame it on this unstable economy. I am overworked due to major cuts at the J-O-B, I am paying mo money than my house is worth, and gas is about to blow the roof off the hizzy! I NEED HAPPY BACK, QUICK! I am planning a family evacuation vacay ASAP.

Ok now that is my chest...howz about some Happy-Chic Style with Jonathan Adler:

This oldy but goody living room makes me happy!

I am drawn to the green in the sofas and the drapes. And I love the quirky art work. I just love the unexpected and JA can bring it!

These Capri bottle neck lamps make me really happy!  The shape, the color and the size are so lovable!

This bedroom below makes me really really happy! I love every color in this room on its own and together its flawless. That mirror and those ottomans would find a happy place in my home.

What is not to be happy about in this cathedral dining room? Ok we have white walls with trim detail, the height is to the moon, and a chevron area rug on the floor! Now that's bringing happy back!

Ok, so bringing happy back can sometimes mean reviving the child in you! I watched  Pee Wee Herman's Playhouse on Broadway the other day on HBO with my kids. Talk about classic entertainment! I remember waking up Saturday morning, as a child, just to watch this show. The day was not complete without the "word of the day!" If you loved Pee Wee then I promise you will love him now! Be sure to catch it if you havn't already.

I will leave you with my word of the day!
HAPPY! Ahhhh!

Earn Your Stripes

Black and White stripes that is!

The outdoor pavilion pictured below does it all for me! Black and white has to be the most striking color combo on this good planet, wouldn't you agree? But when you do it in stripes it becomes strikingly bold!  I love the give and take of the positive and negative energy that this gives off. Its very refined and masculine.

As you know I have a love for all things Z-Gallerie. Its just one of those places that make me happy. The website is awesome first off, but have you ever been in the showroom. You get lost in beauty, its phenomenal!
This store exudes my personal aesthetic with its mix of modern elegance, a little ethnicity, and trendy rustic style. Right now I am also loving the metal lanterns and these black lacquer and polished stainless steel tables.

Check out this outdoor space that is enveloped in black and white stripes on the ceiling and walls. I love when you add a single color to accent the black and white like the emerald green above. The color becomes the focus even though its accented by bold black and white stripes. I love these outdoor chairs too, especially the slip cover.

Speaking of outdoors how about this sharp looking thing. Its a California King snake. I do not know about you, but I am deathly afraid of snakes, but this one is kind of handsome. Talk about being born with style! This would make a great accessory around someone else's neck, of course. I think its time for another Britney Spears performance!

Via 1-2-3-4
I love it when someone is bold enough to paint black and white stripes on their interior walls like in these photos pictures above! I could live with a horizontal stripe. Its not as formal as a vertical stripe. These photos give you best of both worlds!

Via 1-2-3
If you are not one to do painted stripes on the wall how about a less invasive approach by doing an area rug on the floor. Above on the right are two options of black and white striped area rugs. The top is and outdoor version from Z-Gallerie. The bottom is a wool version form Overstock in an 8x11. Also pictured are FLOR carpet tiles in the two bottom pics. I love the concept of carpet tiles. That is both kid friendly and designer friendly!

Via 1-2
I love the idea of creating black and white striped window treatments. Here again are some ideas in both a casual horizontal and a more formal vertical stripe. The horizontal on the left is a DIY from this cute little blog, The Yellow Cape Cod. I love a good DIY! And on the right...its true when they say "all good things come in threes!"

Via 1-2
Let's look at some temporary black and white stripes alternatives. Above is a bedroom with black and white stripe accent pillows. This is so chic! I found an Etsy pillow to purchase. This is probably my speed because you don't have to be committed to anything.

Via 1-2
More temporary alternatives are accent lamps and table linens pictured above. How stylish are both of these. I love the mirror in both of pics too, especially the one on the left. Wouldn't you love a black and white stripe table cloth to drape over your dining table?  I love table cloths that drape to the floor.
Via 1-2-3
Speaking of dining, How about that beautiful black and white stripe dinnerware. This is dining in style no matter what time of day. I guess that is where these fancy pasta come into play! Aren't they cute?!! I would just have these for decoration in a tall glass canister.
Via 1-2
How do you wear your black and white stripes? I have this cute black and white stripe knit scarf and matching glove set. I wore them while I was at a catalog photo-shoot this past December and got many compliments on them. Above are some other wearable accessories like that sunhat that I would war under that Z-Gallerie pavilion an that cute tote bag for $44.00. I love a large bag like this one. If you like black and white you will love White House Black Market!
Via
What about how you would rock black and white stripes on your feet?!! I have seen some nice black and white shoes in my time but these are killer! One these where you buy the shoe first and then find and outfit to match.
Via 1-2

And these pictures are a trip and a half. I could so go for some black and white stripe nails with some sexy matching leg warmers. Now the question is what you are where in between the two?  I have GOT to try some black glossy lips!!!!

Orange Sofa , pleeeez!

I am in the market for an orange sofa for my family room! I love color and orange is one of my favorites next to purple, of course! But on the real, I think that orange is just the right color for my taupe walls. Here is one of my first prospects:
Its the Zoe sofa from Lazy-Boy. I stopped by the showroom in Brandon on my way to my daughter's basketball tournament in Tampa. Its by 90" wide by 37" deep by 39" high. I found a fabric (Linato / C949415)  that will work with my drapery fabric I found a few weeks ago. I used the tool on the site to recover it in the fabric I like!

Please read about this fabric here! I plan to make it to the closest Boca Bargoons to find out who make this fabric. If I want this sofa I will have to wait  8-12 weeks for it to arrive since its being custom made!

Since I am such a visual person and La-Z-Boy did not have a swatch that I could take home with me, I went to our resource room at work and found an large orange swatch to take home with me and test it out. I love it! This picture is poo, but I promise it looks great!

Oh! The lamp shades int he pic above are form Goodwill for $5 a piece. I go them yesterday! They are very large vintage lamp shades, that I plan to hopefully use for my lamp project seen here. You can also  read about where I found the side tables here.

Back to my sofa search, I checked out the reviews on this, boo-hoo only two! I like to have at least five to read. Here is my priority list in my search for a orange sofa:
  1. Size - at least 90x36
  2. Style - transitional
  3. Quality - very well built for longevity
  4. Comfort - not too firm
  5. Color - orange pleeeez
  6. Price - $1000 to $1500 price range
Do you know any good sofa options to suggest?

I am in...Marble Love

Remember this beauty of a lamp!  Well, I came across Bryn Alexandra Interiors blog via 6th Street Design School's confessions of a designer week . I recognized her interiors once I viewed her beautiful portfolio!

and...BAM!
I found love:
Via
Its from the pirouette marbled paper in turquoise, apricot, and raspberry from Paper Mojo! It comes in 24x36 thin sheets for $4.50 per sheet. I actually ordered form here to make my wedding invitations back in 2007! I promise I will be posting about my wedding this month because its our anniversary month, so stay tuned!
Via 1-2
Check out her marbled paper DIY. It was an antique secretary she won at an auction. Beauty isn't it?!!

Via
Now I just need to find the perfect lamp base so I am hoping to score big at one of the local hot spots!

Chic Tween Girls' Bedrooms

As a child, I always had to share a bedroom with my other siblings. I never had a bedroom to call my own. So its kind of liberating to know that we are able to provide my girls with the privacy of their own bedrooms and even more liberating that I am in the process of designing two, not one, "chic" tween girls' bedrooms.

As of right now, the girls have paint on the walls! I am still trying to figure out if I should design them to be identical or not, within the color palette of each room. Some alike elements I know for sure are:
  1. Upholstered headboards
  2. Full size beds
  3. Storage options
  4. Extra Seating
  5. Desk/Vanity
As I come across inspirational photos I save them to my archives. One of them that I came across recently was over at Erika Ward's Blulabel Bungalow (beautiful blog BTW) when she informed us about Jonathan Adler's new boutique opening in Atalanta.

I am in love with this headboard! Since I did not achieve the Pink that my youngest daughter wanted, I am going to find a solid velvet fabric in a deeper shade of the pink walls. Here are some more inspiring pink headboards:

Via 1-2-3
Here are a couple more shapes I am loving too (I changed them to black and white to get and idea of shape rather than color):

Via 1-2 (U R not going to believe what pic 2 is)
As you can see I am going for a certain shape and style  that is scalloped, tufted, and with nail-heads. This is a DIY I am looking forward! Just have to find the right fabric and in the right color!

When it comes to a color palette for the pink room, I am loving this Etsy hand stamped peacock pillow with vivid colors of orchid pink and orange and touches of green apple green and turquoise. They are 12x16 for $38 and I absolutely love this shop, she really has some amazing things.

I find myself constantly working and reworking the space planning for there rooms until I get that feeling that I have just the perfect layout for each of their spaces. And again I keep toying with the idea of doing identical rooms. Here is my latest space plan:

Here is my latest quick sketch:

Still do not have that feeling yet, but I know it will come. I do have a tendency to ponder too much, but I gotta feel it in my gut!

Check out how this chic plum bedroom inspiration  is coming together for the purple room! The headboard is another Horchow headboard option I fell in love with in plum! I love the quatrefoil cu-out detail. It sill has the same look and feel that I am going for with the scalloping and the nail-heads. I have a good feeling good about this!

I am loving the idea of two-tone painted furniture. I am so into refurbishing a piece of furniture to make it your own which I have seen a lot of in the blogging world. The purple wardrobe is from the UK that comes in a variety of different colors. I am just glad I found one in purple. Here is two-tone in pink. Pretty huh! I came across this in the April 2010 issue of Traditional Home magazine. It was a Market Place profile article on kids furniture. This is the Savannah Dresser changer.

Via
The bench is another Horchow find too! I love the simple shape and settle colors. It comes in four, five and six feet widths.  As far as extra seating options, I do not know if I want to create a window seat or just do a simple bench at the end of the bed with storage underneath, but I do know I want a bench!

When it comes to the desk/vanity, I am thinking about splurging! I think the girls (10 &12) are old enough to handle the West Elm Parsons Mirror Console. There is no DIY in this.

I love this option because its just going to reflect all the beautiful finishes and materials that I am planning for these rooms. I wonder if they will do a  BOGO on these for me?

Things I still have yet to consider are:
  1. Flooring - I plan to do a pink and purple shag in the corresponding rooms
  2. Lighting - General, task, and ambient
  3. Ceiling fan - Lowe's has a clear blade fan, but its pretty expensive. I wonder if I can purchase clear blades separately and do a refurb on a couple of fans from craigslist. (ANY IDEAS?)
  4. Window and pillow fabrics - (I actually found a couple but I am not feeling them anymore)
  5. Closet Organizers
So we are well underway to creating two Chic Tween Girls' Bedrooms!
